Attabad Lake Crisis
Today I am writing this with a very heavy heart because a lake which was formed due to a landslide in January 2010 — this lake is located in Gilgit-Baltistan's valley, which is named Gojal Valley, Upper Hunza. This lake is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise water, and due to this lake, Pakistan is earning handsome tourism.
From Crystal Blue to Murky Brown
But some incidents which were recorded in different newspapers and some YouTube channels are so much heart-wrenching. The latest news, in which a British travel vlogger, George Buckley, posted a video showing dark, murky water flowing from a hotel near Attabad Lake, claiming it was sewage mixing with the lake's clear turquoise water.
Viral Video Sparks Outrage Over Lake Pollution
The GB government took action against the Luxus Resort — this is the name of that hotel which is doing this awful act and destroying the beauty of nature.
WWF Raised Red Flags in 2021
In the past, WWF Pakistan also warned and raised red flags. In July 2021, they highlighted that about 30 hotels and restaurants were mixing sewage and muddy, dirty water into the lake. Due to this and the previously mentioned acts, now a major portion of the lake is becoming dull, dark, and muddy — and this all is due to the dirty water.
A Lake Born of Tragedy, Now Facing a Manmade One
It is a humble request to all policymakers of GB and the higher-ups of Pakistan to take strict action against those who are doing these awful acts. And please rescue nature from being destroyed — because it is no use crying over spilled milk. We should do some practical actions to rescue the lake from being destroyed — and other beautiful sceneries from being destroyed.
Nature’s Cry for Help
Again, it is a request to all policymakers: please rescue the beauty of nature — the gift of Allah to us
